Toliara Slum Upgrading Project

A 2 rooms house in Toliara

Since its implementation in 1999, HFH Madagascar has focused on providing no-profit financing for new houses and home improvements in rural and suburban areas. One of the lessons learned from these years of labor was the fact that building houses means also building entire communities.

In 2008 , HFH Madagascar launched successfully its Urban Slum Upgrading projects in the urban municipality of Moramanga. One year later, the project was replicated in Toliara. These projects incorporated community development into the housing program by installing basic community infrastructures (i.e. public latrines, laundries, water points, pathways with drainage system and garbage collection points) and building the capacity of the local community to plan, implement and manage this and other ongoing community development projects in the long-term

In 2011, we plan to serve 100 more families by building or renovating their house. We will also enarge and pave 1000 meters of pathways and build 200 meters of drainage channel.
